Assignments

His first assignment was in the Jagst River Valley in the city of Ellwangen, Germany with Elder Middleton. After he broke his leg and ankle on July 18th he was hospitalized for 10 days and then he returned home to recover. He served one transfer in the Albuquerque NM Mission from January 4 - February 15, 2010 and served on the Navajo Reservation with Elder Lee.

He returned to Zurich on February 16, 2010. His first assignment was to serve with Elder King in Offenburg, Germany. The city is located in the Kinzig River Valley and adjacent to the Black Forest. The nearest large town is Strasbourg, France. He then served in a companionship with Elders Baird and Vaniturt in Offenburg.
On June 24th he was called to serve in Heilbronn with Elder Aeschbacher, who is from Switzerland. He is excited to serve with a native German speaker and hopes this will help him improve his language skills. On August 18, 2010 he was transferred to the city of Tubingen and called to be a companion with Elder Mildon.

Drop & Dash at the ABQ Mission Office

Elder Hargett returned to service on Tuesday, January 5th in his home area, the Albuquerque New Mexico Mission. He will spend one transfer (6 weeks) in this mission and then on February 16th will fly back to Zurich and serve the rest of his mission. We had the priviledge of taking him to the mission office at 7 a.m. for transfers. President Anderson had told Jeff that he will be serving just north of Gallup, NM on the Navajo Nation and will be companions with Elder Lee. We were hoping to meet Elder Lee but Jeff wanted us to drop him off and go and not be the goofy parents hanging around during transfers. We've named the experience the "Drop & Dash".

It has been a long journey for Jeff from the day he broke his leg and ankle to yesterday. He spent 10 days in the hospital in Ellwangen, Germany before he flew home. He spent another 6 weeks on crutches and with a cast up to his knee. Then another 6 weeks with a walking boot on. During that time he tried to stay busy but how much can a person who is immobile do?!? He did continue to study the German language and read some books on social issues like why the U.S. school system is broken and other interesting things. He watched a lot of movies and played his favorite video games too. As always, he kept his dad and me laughing our heads off every day. We love his dry humor and quick wit. He was hoping to get a full medical release from the doctor in early November but that did not happen so we decided to take him on our 25th anniversary cruise that we had planned while he was in the field. It turned into a very nice family vacation and we had a great time. Then we were home in time for Thanksgiving and Jeff obtained his release and submitted his papers. After that it was a waiting game, and boy did he wait. It took from Thanksgiving week to January 1st to get any news at all. But, we know that the Lord had a plan for Jeff as his grandfather passed away in early December and Jeff was able to attend his funeral and spend time with the Hargett side of his family. We are thankful for a loving Heavenly Father who knows what we need and where we need to be at the right time. Jeff is very happy to once again be serving as a missionary and was excited for the opportunity to serve in our backyard, so to speak. He is also anxious to return to the people of Switzerland and Germany and to his fellow missionaries in the Zurich Mission whom he grew to love. We thank you all for the prayers, fasts, thoughts, emails and support you have given all of us. We are blessed to have so many wonderful people to call our family and friends.
