Assignments

His first assignment was in the Jagst River Valley in the city of Ellwangen, Germany with Elder Middleton. After he broke his leg and ankle on July 18th he was hospitalized for 10 days and then he returned home to recover. He served one transfer in the Albuquerque NM Mission from January 4 - February 15, 2010 and served on the Navajo Reservation with Elder Lee.

He returned to Zurich on February 16, 2010. His first assignment was to serve with Elder King in Offenburg, Germany. The city is located in the Kinzig River Valley and adjacent to the Black Forest. The nearest large town is Strasbourg, France. He then served in a companionship with Elders Baird and Vaniturt in Offenburg.
On June 24th he was called to serve in Heilbronn with Elder Aeschbacher, who is from Switzerland. He is excited to serve with a native German speaker and hopes this will help him improve his language skills. On August 18, 2010 he was transferred to the city of Tubingen and called to be a companion with Elder Mildon.

Zone Conference, Austausch & Sad News

This week was pretty uneventful. We got assigned a workshop for zone conference. Which consists of us having to stand in front of all the missionaries in our zone, and the mission president and blurt out terrible german and hope somehow someone learns something. So we decided that we would make a film for zone conference since our topic was on using time wisely and it seemed much funer to make a film than to stand in front of people and lecture on using time for half an hour.
So we used our pday going to and from places to film us on the street, talking to some people we knew, and getting ready for the day in our apartment. It took almost are whole pday but it was still fun. The next day we had some appointments and spent the whole day going to and from investigators and members. It was very busy but no way cool things happened the whole day. The next day we had to finish some stuff on our movie and edit it. A member was willing to let us use his computer and sit around for a while editing our film.
So after that we talked to some people on the street and went to an area called Waiblingen to spend the night so we could get to Stuttgart early the next day. The next day we had zone conference. Everything went well, including our film and then we left. After zone conference we had an austausch (or companion exchange) with the district leader and his comp. I went with Elder Pettinger who is new to Germany and has been in Switzerland for the past 5 months. He was pretty funny and we had a ton of fun going to investigators houses and talking to people. After we exchanged back, Elder Middleton and I went home and got ready for sunday.
On sunday we went to church, talked with some investigators, and found out a member who was disabled had died. It was really sad for everyone because the man was well known and liked and had had a stroke a year ago causing him to be almost completly paralzed. We had actually just seen him the week prior and had brought the sacrament to him on sunday. Even though it hurt him to talk he thanked us and said Amen after the blessings.
Then today we had pday. We decided we would go to the air force base in Stuttgart with the elders from Ulm. But the base decided that we would spend five hours traveling to get there and then tell us we had to go somewhere else to register. That made me sad. We also did not feel like going another three hours to get to the place we were supposed to register so we just went back to Ulm and played basketball. Now I am here in an internet cafe, sweaty, hungry, and tired.
I got two packages in the mail this week. One from Grandma Cushing with a book in it - thanks Grandma! The other from mom with the pictures and recipe book. We are still tight on money. In fact we had to compete to see who would pull out personal money for today. I won but it isn't until i don't know when that we will get more money. It sucks because we have to buy so many train tickets and they take forever to give us money back. I got a check from Aunt Joan & Uncle Chuck, thanks!!! I sent it home for mom to deposit into my account, it seemed easier than trying to cash it. Dad & Mom - Happy anniversary by the way and thanks for doing that stuff with my xbox.
I heard about my wallet being found by the Bahn. I know it was supposed to be delived today but we were in Stuttgart the whole day and I didn'T know it was coming today till we were already in Ulm on our way. So it is probably just in the post ofice. Dad, did you happen to get that pen yet that I sent for Father's Day?
Well it wasn't the funnest week but it was still another week. I hope everything is going great in everyone elses life. Thank you all for supporting me. I love you. Bye. Elder Hargett
