Assignments

His first assignment was in the Jagst River Valley in the city of Ellwangen, Germany with Elder Middleton. After he broke his leg and ankle on July 18th he was hospitalized for 10 days and then he returned home to recover. He served one transfer in the Albuquerque NM Mission from January 4 - February 15, 2010 and served on the Navajo Reservation with Elder Lee.

He returned to Zurich on February 16, 2010. His first assignment was to serve with Elder King in Offenburg, Germany. The city is located in the Kinzig River Valley and adjacent to the Black Forest. The nearest large town is Strasbourg, France. He then served in a companionship with Elders Baird and Vaniturt in Offenburg.
On June 24th he was called to serve in Heilbronn with Elder Aeschbacher, who is from Switzerland. He is excited to serve with a native German speaker and hopes this will help him improve his language skills. On August 18, 2010 he was transferred to the city of Tubingen and called to be a companion with Elder Mildon.

I Can't Speak Chinese (but I can eat it....)

So this last week was way cool. On Monday we went and had family home evening with a family here in the ward. The mom is less active but both the son and daughter are active and the son is preparing to go on a mission. They grilled a ton of food. We gave a spiritual thought and they all talked about things they would fight for like Captain Moroni did. It was pretty cool. I felt stupid cause I said snowboarding and video games and other stuff and everyone else said reasonable things. Oh well.
On Tuesday we went to Ludwigsburg and had district meeting. Elder Blomquist (my MTC comp) was there it was way cool. Afterwards we went and got some chinese food which is alot like american chinese food. Only the people there can't speak english or german. And I can't speak chinese so pretty much I get whatever they have a picture of. Or whatever they feel like.... Doesn't matter tastes good.
On Wednesday we met with a less active member named Peter. I think I have mentioned him before but anyways he comes to church every week now thanks to elder Middleton and Aeschbacher and is pretty much active. He blesses and passes the sacrament and everything. I think we are pretty much just his teachers so he can go through the temple soon. But he is cool. We also met with another less active, he met this 50 year old woman on the internet and she is the love of his life and he is flying out there in a couple days to marry her. He is about 30 by the way and has never met the woman but who am I to stop love! (also he said he would get me some peanut sauce!)
On Thursday we met this family, well the wife the husband was gone. Elder Middleton and Aesbacher found them a while ago and have taught them the first two lessons. The husband admits he doesnt really have interest in religion but still loves the missionaries and supports his wife if she wants to investigate. Why are more people not like this? She is way nice and is almost done reading True to the Faith but still has read only a little bit in the Book of Mormon. We talked to her about the holy ghost and she started crying and explaining about how her and her husband used to get into fights and were in a fight the day Elder Middleton and Aeschbacher rang their door and everytime the missionaries visit they feel at peace and are now doing much better. It was nice, we were even about to ask her about baptism but her two year old son started crying somewhere so we waited. Then we decided we would wait till the husband was there anyways. So that they could talk about it.
On Saturday (I know i forgot Friday but i am forgetting when we met who or when or how or whatever.) We did an exchange and the elders from the international ward came up. Me and Elder Pettingil went up a three hour hike, in our missionary clothes, with heavy backpacks, up a three hour off trail hike to a mans address to find out he moved two years ago. Then we saw where his phone number was on the referral! Oh well think I lost a pound. We also me Sister Boger (her kids don't let her do anything) she said her kids are cool now with letting her go to church but she feels bad cause she didn't pay her tithing even though she hasnt gotten any money and wanted to know if she could come to church. We explained that she is a better member than half the people at church (no offence to anyone, she is better than me) and that she can always come to church no matter what.
Heilbronn is just a big city. It's also a huge place for making wine. But its all good. Its a ward not a branch... i think. It is a lot bigger than Offenburg though.  Everyone here is way into soccer and I want them to win but at the same time I kinda want them to lose because whenever they win we literally can't do anything the day of or day after they even shut off the buses and trains in the citys. lol.  You have no idea how crazy it is out here. We dont even go out and try to do stuff during a game or afterwards, every city has a huge party if they win. No one has work or school on soccer days and there are riots everywhere, we got some pictures though it is pretty funny though.   About my military ID, I know it expires on my birthday.  Did you know that retired people or their relatives have no banking priviledges on base?  I tried to exchange some money and found that out.  I think it you guys came and got me right when I get off that would be good, there isn't anything I want to do that I couldn't do as a missionary with his parents here.  It seemed to work o.k. for Elder Merkley.  Still not sure about my dates, if you know Elder Grieve it might be the same time as he gets off his mission.
We also went by a doctor since Elder Aeschbachers stomach has been hurting. Apparently he has a hernia and is going to get surgery for it some time next week or the following week not sure yet. But he will be staying out here and I might be stuck with him in a hospital or get a temp comp not sure. Hope everything goes well with him he has been in a lot of pain. On Sunday we went to church, Sister Boger came and so did about 5 less actives.  We got to talk to everyone and I re-met all the young single adults in the ward since they are the coolest people to talk to. And then we went down to Offenburg so I could get a thing for my passport. And then we are here today. Well that is about it have a great week. Bye
Elder Hargett
