Assignments

His first assignment was in the Jagst River Valley in the city of Ellwangen, Germany with Elder Middleton. After he broke his leg and ankle on July 18th he was hospitalized for 10 days and then he returned home to recover. He served one transfer in the Albuquerque NM Mission from January 4 - February 15, 2010 and served on the Navajo Reservation with Elder Lee.

He returned to Zurich on February 16, 2010. His first assignment was to serve with Elder King in Offenburg, Germany. The city is located in the Kinzig River Valley and adjacent to the Black Forest. The nearest large town is Strasbourg, France. He then served in a companionship with Elders Baird and Vaniturt in Offenburg.
On June 24th he was called to serve in Heilbronn with Elder Aeschbacher, who is from Switzerland. He is excited to serve with a native German speaker and hopes this will help him improve his language skills. On August 18, 2010 he was transferred to the city of Tubingen and called to be a companion with Elder Mildon.

Tranfers & Thieves

This week didn't have too much exciting but there was at least transfers. Elder King had recieved a call and went to Stuttgart in the American Military Ward. So before he left we had our awesome p-day at Europa Park, which was a blast! On Tuesday we had a street display for Offenburg. Both companionships from Freiburg came down. The older missionary couple handed out a ton of stuff even though Sister Longhurst can't speak more than a couple words of German. We didn't get anybody that was really interested but it was still fun to hang out in the middle of the market and got to see a dude with no hands playing a pan flute. Oh by the way I now can play three songs on the guitar.
We also got to meet some French people in a booth next to us that were trying to get us to go to some college presentation demo. Later we had district meeting in which we watched the movie "The testaments". We also got two more beds for the elders that were coming. On Wendsday we met with some members that wanted to see Elder King again before he left so we had that for all of Wensday.
On Thursday we got up and got Elder King and his stuff down to the train station and got him loaded up. He left at about 9 am and the other 3 came in at about noon. So I went back to the apartment and called the Elders in Freiburg for 3 hours. Once the other Elders got in we took them to try and get them registered. They wern't able to yet cause elder Baird was just in Stuttgart and doesn't have this little thing that says he is a registered 'preacher' in Germany. So he is getting that soon. Later we spilt up and did some streets and I took Elder Baird around to see an area of Offenburg so he would know it better. While my companion, Elder Vanuitert and Elder Greive went somewhere else.
On Friday we spent about half the day planning. Which was good, we decided who would have what areas and who they would be teaching. Later on we went out again but not a lot happended. On Saturday we went out for a little bit but ended up coming in early cause we had to go up to Freiburg to watch General Conference. After General Conference we went over to the Freiburg Elder's apartment and stayed the night there.
On Sunday we got to church early and watched the Priesthood meeting actually cause they have theirs on Sunday morning. After Priesthood some guy was out in the foyer and making a ton of noise. Some people told us to come check on this one guy they weren't sure if he was crazy or safe or what. So we went out to check on him. After a minute or so of him babbling and stuff some teenagers in street clothes came out of the chapel. I looked in the chapel and noticed no one else had been in there and Elder Owens bag and mine were up on a pew even though they had been on the ground. I told Elder Owen to check his bag real quick. He went over and noticed he was missing his money and his stuff was gone through. So we ran after them. They were on bikes and ended up getting away from me and elder owen. The police came and took the guy who was making a big 'scene's info and ours. Luckily nothing was stollen from anyone else. We think that they may have stopped early cause someone did go into the chapel just a little bit before they left just to look at something so we think that might have scared them off.
After that we just had general conference. We stayed there till about 9 pm. Tim, the young guy me and Elder King had found, was there with the Freiburg Elders. He has a baptismal date and I'm way stoked for him - he is a really interesting guy. We ended up staying up late last night eating a ton of food and playing monopoly and finally ended up all falling asleep. We don't know what is going on today but we're in Freiburg and might just go play sport. Well I'm going to go. Just wanted to say to everyone that I'm grateful we got to watch a lot of the conference sessions and I know the church is true (even if young dudes sneak in and steal things). I'm really hope that isn't something they do a lot going around stealing from churches especially since a lot of catholic churchs have a donation pot for poor people and that would be terrible but hopefully they won't think it is worth it again to only get about 45 euros and risk getting caught but I don't know. Well hope everyone else had a great Easter.
Love you all,

Elder Hargett
