Assignments

His first assignment was in the Jagst River Valley in the city of Ellwangen, Germany with Elder Middleton. After he broke his leg and ankle on July 18th he was hospitalized for 10 days and then he returned home to recover. He served one transfer in the Albuquerque NM Mission from January 4 - February 15, 2010 and served on the Navajo Reservation with Elder Lee.

He returned to Zurich on February 16, 2010. His first assignment was to serve with Elder King in Offenburg, Germany. The city is located in the Kinzig River Valley and adjacent to the Black Forest. The nearest large town is Strasbourg, France. He then served in a companionship with Elders Baird and Vaniturt in Offenburg.
On June 24th he was called to serve in Heilbronn with Elder Aeschbacher, who is from Switzerland. He is excited to serve with a native German speaker and hopes this will help him improve his language skills. On August 18, 2010 he was transferred to the city of Tubingen and called to be a companion with Elder Mildon.

I Am a Registered Preacher in Germany

Hey well this week was different. On Monday we didn't really do much just kind of hung out and cleaned and stuff. We did visit this family we visit every Monday for family home evening though. They are way fun. The less active mom makes way good food and even makes the few german foods that I don't like taste good. Her son Brian is way cool. He is 22 and works to help pay for stuff for their family but is planning on going on a mission. That only leaves Michelle the daughter who is also way funny. They are just entertaining to be around and way fun. We are going to visit them today as well.
On Tuesday we had district meeting and then afterwards we went to try this german place near the missionaries apartments. The lunch menu had all the generic stuff that Germans make like maltauschen and spetzle and stuff so we just figured it was some ok bar food place and just ordered our food and drinks. The drinks where huge! Unlike the normal two-three gulps you get out here it was like an actuall drink! Not only that but the food was the best I've tasted! Even though it was a bar/restaurant and was completely deserted besides us, it has by far the best german food I've had since I've been out here. We are making that our weekly place to go after district meeting.
Later on we visited a guy who thinks the KGB is following him. We got to talk to him for a little bit before his mind went off and told us about how the police are following him and his hair is poisioned and other stuff. I think it would be awesome to take a new missionary over there so they could sit there and think they are hearing everything wrong. He is a little crazy but extremely nice. He doesnt' go to church cause he is paranoid and everything but we can still visit him and share messages with us so we plan on doing that at least once a week.
We went by on a ton of people but no one was home. Elder Aeschbacher left Wednesday morning for Münich to get checked. He was there till Friday night so I went with Elder Blomquist and his companion. We made a trip to Offenburg on Thursday to pick up my passport that the buro had down there so I could get registered to be a 'preacher' out here in Germany. That was a pain but its all done now so its cool.
On Friday we went back to Heilbron and visited some less actives. All of them made progress this week! One of them now prays with us even though she was way scared of prayer when we first visited her. One of them is now reading in the scriputures and one is coming to church now. We also got to help a newly re-activated member move some stuff out of his garage. He was way grateful and gave us all a liter of either mineral water or soda and kept thanking us even though it only took about 30 minutes.
When i was with ludwigsburg we went to a park for older people one night lol. They have a huge slide u have to climb up a rock wall to get too and some weird huge pillars you have to try flipping over by jumping on them lol it was way fun. We got to meet Schwester Boger again this week and talked to her about her children and charity. She told us about one of her sons doesn't believe in God anymore since his wife died when she was 39. We talked to her for about an hour and we said a prayer for him. Then Elder Aeschbacher came back and the Ludwigsburg elders went back home. We went and visited some people on Saturday but nobody really seemed to be too excited who we invited to church.
We called Arisa, the man who said he wanted to get baptized but needs help to stop smoking, he said he would probably come to church but ended up not showing up. The only investigator who came to church was Schwester Boger. It was still good though. After church we went to meet with all the leaders of the church and we talked about a lot and Brian had told the bishop that he thinks he will wait a year or two to go on a mission and he is already 22 we think that is may have to do with that he is scared what will happen if he leaves since he helps supports his family right now. We are going to talk to him tonight and try to reassure him that a mission can help him and his family and we are going to read a scripture in D&C about it. Hope that goes well.
I havnt had time to do the guitar by ear thing you sent me. Thanks for it though. I got your letter and another letter about the family you sent this week. I havn't gotten the two packages though... unless one of them was sent like 3 weeks ago then i think i got it or maybe four weeks ago. My release date is august 8th 2011 so hopefully we will still be able to do stuff here in germany if not then yeah we can maybe come back and visit. I think the base is a good idea. What did you plan for traveling though? are you going to rent a car or are we going to get train tickets? it would be around 30 euro a day for tickets and more if we go beyond the baden-würtemburg area.
I did get the small thing you sent that was translated into german it was thoughtful and pretty funny espescially cause at the end where you tried signing off it translated it to 'goodbye from mothersday' instead of mom. It was funny.  I like the new garments you sent a lot better than the 100% cotton ones I had coming out.  Much cooler in the heat to wear the new ones.  I also bought a suit for 19 EU that I really like.  Both pairs of my shoes are worn out, I'll take a picture next week so you can get it to Missionary Mall.  I am going to write President Matern back today.  President Condie has us report our numbers via email on Mondays instead of the Wednesday night call and we write him a weekly email.  He is nice though and I still think I will get along with him well.  Thanks for the picture of Spencer and Dustin, tell Spencer cool truck and not to run any red lights in that one.  lol
Elder Aeschbacher is leaving again at 5 today and getting his surgery and will be gone for about a week so I will be with Ludwigsburg again. I know though that we will still get to meet people that we can help and this week will still be exciting. I hope everything stays awesome there and never gets boring! Love you all,

Elder Hargett
